Classification Implementation Working Group
The Federal/Provincial/Territorial
(FPT) Committee on Pest Management and Pesticides has a mandate to seek harmonization, where applicable, of federal, provincial and territorial pesticide programs and policies. The FPT Committee identified that there were benefits in developing a single harmonized pesticide classification system to replace existing federal and provincial classification systems.
The Classification Implementation Working Group (CIWG) was established through the FPT Committee to work on a framework for a single harmonized strategy for pesticide classification in Canada. Phase I of that framework deals with Domestic class products with an objective of supporting the Healthy Lawns Strategy through more controlled domestic use.
A complete description of the CIWG and its activities is available on the PMRA web site.
