The Healthy Lawns Working Group (HLWG)
was established through the Federal /
Provincial / Territorial (FPT)
Committee on Pest Management and Pesticides
to implement the Healthy
Lawns Strategy.
The goal of the Healthy Lawns Strategy is
to help reduce Canadians' reliance on pesticide use for lawn care through
the application of Integrated Pest Management (IPM) principles, with particular
emphasis on pest prevention, use of reduced risk products and application
of pesticides only when necessary.
This Strategy is part of the overall Action
Plan on Urban Use Pesticides announced
by the Minister of Health in October 2000.
The Working Group's mission is to:
- Provide advice and direction to federal,
provincial and territorial governments
on the implementation of the Healthy
Lawns Strategy,
- Deliver and implement the objectives
of the Healthy Lawns Strategy, and
- Promote information exchange in the
area of lawn pest management and pesticides.
The Group meets annually and reports
on the progress of
its subcommittees. Members are
encouraged to disseminate the Healthy
Lawns messages at appropriate events and
to appropriate media contacts.
The Group assessed its communications products and activities and developed guidance for completing their work by the end of March 2007.
